About the Ecology Action Centre

Since 1971, the EAC has been working at the local, regional, national and more recently, international level to build a healthier and more sustainable world. While all of our work is connected to Nova Scotia, we draw inspiration from many places. We work closely with communities as well as social and natural scientists and make strong use of science in communicating our message.

The Centre's earliest projects included recycling, composting, and energy conservation, and these are now widely recognized environmental issues. Our current areas of focus include Built Environment, Marine Issues, Coastal Issues, Wilderness, Food, Transportation and Energy Issues. Some accolades we've received over the years include:

• "Best Activist Organization" in The Coast for nine years running
• one of the Globe and Mail's 10 best-run charities in Canada, 2000
• Arthur Kroeger Awards for Public Affairs in the category of Citizenship and Community Affairs, 2009
• one of Tides Canada's Top 10, 2003 and 2010
