Active Transportation
ADAPT
ADAPT is a loose organization of 45 physicians with no formal governance structure. Members are like-minded physicians who care about the impact of the built environment on public health. There are two types of members - active and passive.
Active members are
promoting active transportation through their own individual efforts, attending ADAPT meetings and engaging in discussion with fellow
members by e-mail; passive members are individuals who receive
information by e-mail, but do not come to meetings and
contribute less often to e-mail discussions. ADAPT is more of a networking tool than a specific program or project.
ADAPT’s priority is to emphasize publicly that physicians see environmental health as an integral part of personal health, specifically as environmental health pertains to the built environment and active transportation; to publicly promote active transportation as one of the top healthcare and environment-care initiatives; and to identify and address obstacles to active transportation. ADAPT achieves these priorities through communication, education and
advocacy. Specifically, ADAPT uses a list-serve to network and share best practices with fellow physicians and uses letter writing and media to achieve advocacy.
In 2010, ADAPT will focus on both practice-related issues and community-related issues.
Active Transportation Advisory Committee
The Active Transportation Advisory Committee is a Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) committee. Its mandate is to advise Regional Council on all matters relating to active transportation in Halifax Regional Municipality, using the HRM Active Transportation Plan as a guide.

The goal of the event is to encourage as many HRM residents as possible to ride their bicycles during the week for any reason - transportation, recreation, creative expression, sport, etc...
