Ditch the Bottle
Turn on the Taps and Ditch the Bottle is a coalition of groups calling on municipalities to ban the sale and distribution of bottled water in municipal buildings. The coalition is urging all Nova Scotia residents to contact their municipal councillors and push for a ban on bottled water in municipal facilities and at municipally-sponsored events. The County of Barrington on the South Shore of Nova Scotia has already passed a resolution to ban bottled water in municipal buildings, the question is which municipality will be next?
Halifax Regional Municipality is currently preparing a report on the feasibility of adopting a ban on bottled water which will be presented before council in the summer of 2009.
Turn on the Taps and Ditch the Bottle is made up of the following organizations:
- Ecology Action Centre
- Canadian Union of Public Employees
- Polaris Institute
- The Council of Canadians
- Oxfam Canada
- Nova Scotia Environment Network
- Kairos
- Canadian Federation of Students
- Hydro Heroes
- Sierra Youth Coalition
