The floor in our boardroom

We covered our in-floor, solar-powered radiant heating system with 2 inches of concrete.  This sturdy flooring will slowly radiate heat, and will keep our feet warm in the winter so that we can keep down the overall temperature in the building, and thereby conserve energy.

The concrete flooring was then treated with Kemiko Concrete Floor Stain, and then Rembrandt Wax to provide a durable, low-maintenance surface.  The acid used to treat the flooring has a surprisingly low environmental impact; it can simply be neutralized with baking soda upon removal.

The high contrast, bordered pattern was chosen to increase the accessibility of our office for people with visual impairments.
