EAC’s in-house expertise on pesticides has been developed over the past 20 years, through our involvement in several projects with pesticides, including involvement in the creation of the HRM pesticide bylaw. EAC also delivered HRM’s pesticide bylaw program during the first few years the bylaw was in place. This included educating the general public about the new legalities of pesticide use and processing applications for pesticide use.

EAC is pleased that HRM has a pesticide bylaw in place, but with these toxic products still available on retail shelves, and no other municipality in Nova Scotia allowed to pass their own bylaws, there is much work to be done on this issue. Education and legislation are the keys to change, and we believe that both these tools are necessary to do the job right.
