General Contractor
Kentville, Nova Scotia
In 2010 Derrick Shaffer deconstructed a 100 year old building that was once an inn and stagecoach stop and later a church food and clothing bank in New Minas. Given sufficient lead time by his client Shaffer was able to reuse or recycle most of the building through systems he developed on site.
He and his crew worked with all materials in the building removing the aluminum siding for recycling, chipping the clean wood on site and selling the hardwood flooring. Many of the fixtures were presold at a series of public viewings of the building before it came down in March 2010.
