Sustainable Transportation Infrastructure
| EAC staff and volunteers used bike trailers such as this one to move furniture from our old location to the Fern Lane building. |
The centre aims to be a model for other organizations by demonstrating sustainable workplace transportation infrastructure.
When the building was first sold, neighbors were worried that a new business would mean more traffic and less available parking on the street. The EAC is doing the opposite of the vast majority of commercial properties, and is reducing the available parking spots from 4 to 1. This gives us more room for outdoor meeting space, compost demonstration, and urban food production.
Bike racks on the site provide parking for up to 30 bicycles. A solar-powered, low-flow shower for those extra long commutes is also being installed.
The Fern Lane location is centrally located in Halifax near the intersection of Robie Street and North Street. It is therefore serviced by the 7, 42, 80 and 81 routes up Robie Street, and the 2, 4 and 52 routes along North Street. A full transit map can be found here, and more detailed contact information for our location can be found here.
