Walk

A woman commutes by walking.Canadians are motivated to walk more as a mode of transportation.  Eight in ten (82%) agree that they would ideally like to walk more often than they do. Atlantic Canadians are most likely to say they want to walk more often (88%).

So let's do it !

  • Think of all your regular or routine destinations that are within a 2.5 km distance. It could be your office, a friend's house, a transit stop, or the local store.
  •  Consider what is a comfortable distance for you to walk there and back, and what you'll be carrying on the way. A 2.5 km (30 minutes) walk, one-way, is an easy distance for most. Perhaps you can walk there and catch the bus back.
  • Map out a daily or frequent route.  Streets with less car traffic are quieter and less stinky.  A roundabout, yet more pleasant street, might actually feel shorter than the direct route.  Take a different path once in a while.
