Water Policy Influence

Water policy is gaining provincial as well as national interest.  Water issues affecting Nova Scotians include sedimentation and acidification of rivers, contamination from wastewater and on-site septic systems, runoff from agricultural areas and loss of wetlands.  The EAC is actively engaged in the development of a provincial water resources strategy.

The Ecology Action Centre and the Water Caucus of the Nova Scotia Environment Network have developed the Blueprint for Water Management in Nova Scotia.  The Blueprint contains recommendations for the provincial government as they develop a Water Strategy.  The Blueprint has been endoresed by over thirty organizations.

A draft water was released in April 2010 and will be followed by targeted stakeholder consultations.  The province is committed to meeting their deadline of 2010 for a comprehensive water strategy.  For more information on the provincial water strategy visit the NS government's water webpage
