12. wood & air
The wood used for the custom-built bookcase in the Boardroom, as well as several countertops and the entire deck, has all been certified as sustainably forested by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The wood was harvested nearby from Windhorse Farms, and was only cut down when the particular tree looked like it would naturally die the next season. This method of forestry maintains a healthy, diverse forest and produces high quality wood that is free of harmful chemicals.
Throughout our facility, indoor air quality has remained a vital goal of our process. Paints, furniture, cleaning products and construction materials were carefully chosen not only by the impact that their creation and transportation would have on the environment, but also by stating that these products had to maintain a healthy indoor environment in our office.
Through our green building principles, and with a tremendous amount of strength and dedication from our staff, volunteers and funders, we have accomplished our goal to create a new location that is an excellent workplace, and which allows us to prove that we live by the green policies that we recommend.
