6. material reuse Whenever possible, materials were reused from the original building. Creative uses for these materials were often found, such as laths that were turned into trellises for peas and acoustic tiles that were nailed to walls to further insulate them. The most efficient type of material reuse is to maintain the original substrates in their same location and to have them playing the same role in the building. For this reason, the original windows, doors, trim, chimney and some wallpaper were refurbished instead of being replaced. Whenever construction waste was inevitable, this was carefully sorted and either given away through Freecycle or recycled at C & D Demolition.
