Following the lecture and Q&A attendees with break into small groups to discuss practical next steps for protecting Nova Scotia's shorelines on small and large scales, in policy and in practice.

Learn about Nova Scotia's options for implementing Living Shorelines as a means of coastal protection and climate adaptation in high energy coastal systems from Living Shorelines expert Kevin Smith. Mr. Smith is the assistant director of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and has nearly 30 years of experience overseeing the design and installation of successful living shoreline projects. He was directly involved in the development and implementation of the Maryland Coastal Adaptation Policy.

This talk will explore Maryland's success with its coastal adaptation and living shorelines policy, and how those policies have translated into on-the-ground success in protecting coastal ecosystems and human communities. 

Following Mr. Smith's talk and Q&A, we'll break into smaller groups to discuss practical next steps for protecting Nova Scotia's shorelines on small and large scales, in policy and in practice.
