Friday August 1st, 2014 9:30am-4:30pm 21 Plateau Crescent, Halifax B3M 2V7 Come learn how to build a rain garden, a special type of garden designed for absorbing stormwater.

If you're excited about native plants, edible landscaping, or wondering what to do with stormwater on your property, consider dropping in to learn how to build a rain garden! On Friday August 1, 2014, the Ecology Action Centre's Coastal and Water team will be leading a rain garden build at 21 Plateau Crescent, a Killam Properties building with community garden beds. We'll be putting in two small gardens designed to minimize stormwater flow over the site toward the building. The gardens will be planted with native edible shrubs and perennial flowers. You'll learn about rain garden placement and shaping for stormwater management, and selecting plants to meet both the site needs and your gardening interests. Bring work gloves, close-toed shoes, water, sun protection and snacks. Tools and some snacks will be on hand. Feel free to drop in during the day.
